The sporty and sophisticated vintage-style Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is a tribute to Chopard’s passion for motor-racing thrills. With its black dial and broad luminescent numerals, this timepiece pulsates to the beat of a high-precision COSC-certified ‘engine’. Available in stainless steel in a 42mm diameter, it embodies the sporting spirit and nonchalant elegance cultivated by the Maison within the framework of its historical partnership with the Mille Miglia, the world’s most beautiful car race.

The timepiece of distinguished sportspersons

Similarly to Chopard’s co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, who annually competes in what Enzo Ferrari described as “la corsa più bella del mondo », the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is intended for passionate enthusiasts of epic adventures. This exceptional chronograph is directly inspired by the speed machines that competed in the Mille Migla between 1927 and 1940. Enhanced by two traditional pushers and a fluted crown reminiscent of vintage chronographs, its 42mm stainless steel case features harmonious dimensions and classic lines. The dial provides perfect legibility thanks to broad Arabic numerals that are luminescent at night, as are the hands. The slender cursive fonts, as well as the counters, are inspired by late 1920s dashboards and stand out clearly by contrast with the background. The sweep-seconds hand features a red tip to count off the precious seconds of the race. The arrow-shaped red “Rossa Corsa” Mille Miglia logo appears at the heart of the dial in the 12 o’clock position, as well as around the rim of the exhibition case-back. Offering a perfect blend of precision, comfort and elegance, this watch is the ideal companion for drivers hurtling along Italian roads at full speed. It comprises a tachymeter scale, a useful indication for calculating average speed which is the decisive factor in endurance racing. In an ultimate touch of sporting elegance, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is fitted on the emblematic black rubber strap bearing the raised tread pattern of the famous 1960s Dunlop racing tyres.

Certified mechanical precision

As one would expect from a performance-driven sporty timepiece, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is equipped with a high-precision watch ‘engine’, chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour and visible through the sapphire crystal case-back adorned with the Mille Miglia logo, this mechanical self-winding chronograph movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date functions, while ensuring an approximately 42-hour power reserve.

A story of passion and elegance

It all began in 1988 when Chopard became the partner and official timekeeper of the famous Mille Miglia classic car rally. This enduring union was born from the personal passion of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard co-president and a keen amateur driver with a strong interest in collector’s cars. He played a pioneering role in the watch industry through his decision to associate prestige watchmaking with the world of classic racing – which have now become inseparably entwined. This shared love of fine mechanical engineering and sports performance signalled the start of a much-appreciated watch collection. The virile and sporty Mille Miglia watches are distinctively chic high-precision mechanical creations embodying the spirit of the legendary Italian competition. Each spring, the prestigious endurance race sees over 400 teams vie with each other on a stunning 1000-mile (1,600km) loop running from Brescia to Rome and back.

A family story

The Mille Miglia is a family story of passion for the Scheufele’s. This passion is transmitted from generation to generation. All the members of the family have taken part or attended the Mille Miglia under the Maison Chopard flag. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele will be on the starting line under the watchful eye of his own father, Karl Scheufele, who instilled in him his own fascination and enthusiasm for classic cars. These moments are special and precious for a father. There is of course a deeply rooted desire to pass on a personal penchant… What could be finer than to transmit a passion for fine mechanics, whether of the horological or automobile variety? Yet, the Mille Miglia is a demanding mistress. A trying race that requires constant attention and tolerates no imprecision. It is all about passing on, as well as teaching, sharing and accompanying in order to help avoid potential pitfalls and lead the car to victory. The qualities required to take part in this rally are well-known and quite logically similar to those of the Chopard watchmakers.
